Big VA OL builds rapport with Luke, ready to camp today

A big offensive lineman from Virginia, drawing interest from Clemson among other schools, will get the chance to show the Tigers staff what he can do today.

Jaishaun Offutt, a Class of 2025 prospect from John Handley High School (Winchester, Va.), is set to practice for the Tigers as Dabo Swinney camp begins today.

The 6-foot-4, 315-pounder hopes to impress while showcasing his abilities and skills.

“My quick feet and how explosive I am with the ball and my changes of direction, and just little technical things,” Offutt said of what he’s looking to show at Camp Swinney.

Clemson offensive line coach Matt Luke stopped by Offutt’s school last month and expressed interest in the rising senior recruit, who has been somewhat under the radar but has seen its first scholarship offers arriving this year.

Offutt said he and Luke have “a good relationship right now.”

“I like him,” Offutt said. “He seems to know what he’s talking about, and I know he’s had a lot of success as an offensive line coach. That’s what I want to play, so I think he’s probably a great coach whose advice you can take and learn from.

“He saw my film for the first time and he said he enjoyed it, he liked the way I acted and he thought I might be a good candidate,” Offutt added, ” but I just gotta come see the campus and meet coach Swinney and everyone.

Today will mark the first visit to Clemson for Offutt.

“I’m excited because it’s a really good school from a football standpoint and from an academic standpoint,” he said. “So I think seeing a school like Clemson for the first time will open my eyes and show me what the schools have to offer.”

After Clemson, Offutt is scheduled to camp at Maryland (June 9), Virginia (June 18) and James Madison (June 23).

FCS schools Towson, Elon and Georgetown presented Offutt with his first offers in February before New Hampshire, William & Mary, Morgan State, Maine, Bucknell, Delaware State, Navy and Air Force all followed with offers this spring. He’s also attracting attention from other schools like Virginia, the program Offutt said he feels the most interest in at this point in the process.

As for Clemson, Offutt would love to land an offer from the Tigers and get a chance to play in Tiger Town.

“I feel like it’s a great place to be in football,” he said. “There’s a lot of success there and that’s been the case over the (last) years, and there’s a lot of great coaches there that have produced great talent that has come out of there or Besides. So, I feel like as a coach and as a school, I feel like there’s everything that any football player would look for, and there’s there an opportunity that most players wouldn’t turn down.
