9-1-1: Lone Star EP breaks down the emotional Owen and Marjan moment you may have missed and the iconic TV scene that inspired it

9-1-1: Lone Star had an epic start to the final season of the 2024 television schedule, with a real trainwreck. The heroes of the 126 were also confronted with a deadly cloud of chlorine gas which threatened one group or the other depending on the shifts in the wind. Fortunately, despite a few close accidents and a painful injury for Marjan, all the good guys survived the sinking, and the episode ended with Owen finally making his choice regarding a lieutenant… and a touching, low-key moment with Marjan with executive producer Rashad Raisani. explained to CinemaBlend, with a reference to an iconic TV scene.

As Owen was about to announce who he would choose as the 126’s next lieutenant, Marjan spoke up to withdraw his name so that Paul would get the job after his approach to the sinking saved a life he had missed. It was a lovely moment and Owen never had to reveal who he chose. He took a moment to step aside and whisper something in Marjan’s place, and it was such a quick moment that I can easily imagine viewers missing it during Paul’s celebration and making fun of Judd as new novice after his ordeal without Grace.

It was also a moment that had such an impact on me that I had to talk to the executive producer about it. So, will we ever know what exactly Owen whispered to Marjan after she decided to back Paul for lieutenant? Here’s what Rashad Raisani shared:

We won’t, because I feel like it’s there. I think of two great moments in the history of cinema and television that had a huge impact on me. It was the end of Lost in Translation, when Bill Murray whispers in Scarlett Johansson’s ear, and then a similar moment that had an equal and perhaps even stronger impact on me. Oddly enough, it’s on The Office, when Steve Carell left the show and Pam grabs (Michael) at the airport, and they both take their microphones off, and he whispers the last thing to her, which chokes me up still, just thinking about it. he.

Lost in translation ends with Bill Murray’s character kissing Scarlett Johannson’s character, whispering something in her ear, then walking away to go their separate ways. The film ranks among CinemaBlend’s best films of the 2000s for a reason, but perhaps more relevant to 9-1-1: Lone StarThe moment between Owen and Marjan is that of The office.

When Michael left Scranton to accommodate Steve Carrell’s departure from the show, The office amped up the emotion by asking Pam to chase him to the airport so they could share a hug and some last words. While Jenna Fischer dropped some details about what she said to Carrell, the beloved sitcom never revealed what Pam said to Michael.

This will be the case for Owen and Marjan on 9-1-1: Lone Staraccording to the European Parliament, which continues:

I think I know what Owen said. I actually didn’t tell any of these actors what was going to be said. I was so confident that they would play something that would be memorable that I didn’t even tell them, and I think they did. But I know what I would have made Owen say, and I feel like the fact that neither of us will ever know makes it even better, because it’s really between them, what ‘he said, because… the gesture she makes is so remarkable. I think that’s what attracted him.

So we’ll never know what Owen said to Marjan unless Rob Lowe or Natacha Karam speak up, but I don’t think the moment loses any of that element of mystery. The biggest question going forward may be what kind of lieutenant Paul will be…and how Judd will work under him.
