Oswego Police ask motorists to prepare for increased traffic during PrairieFest

The Oswego Police Department has issued a public notice advising of potential traffic delays and congestion due to upcoming PrairieFest activities. The festival will take place June 13-16 at the festival grounds on Plank Street in Oswego.

In a press release, police say motorists should expect delays when traveling on the following roads:

-Route 71 between route 34 and Forest Avenue

-Plainfield Road between Route 71 and Woolley Road

-Madison, Washington and Main Streets in downtown Oswego

-all downtown on Sunday, June 16 from 1 p.m. to 2:30 p.m. due to the PrairieFest parade

Motorists not attending PrairieFest should consider alternate routes when possible to avoid delays.

Additionally, entry into the Oswego High School south parking lot at Route 71 and Franklin Street will not be accessible to motorists traveling southbound on Route 71, and access to the parking lots gravel football fields will be closed. Volunteers will help festival attendees park in the following parking lots:

-District 308 Transportation Center parking lot at 55 Stonehill Road

– Oswego High School South and North Fields

-Park District soccer fields

PrairieFest attendees can expect to see an increased police and security presence on the festival grounds and along the parade route.
