Jammu, June 11: The Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) University Unit of Jammu has protested against the University of Jammu over the problems faced by students of affiliated colleges in taking admission in the 5th semester. The protest, which took place in front of the office of the Dean of Academic Affairs, highlighted the problem faced by 4th semester students who find it difficult to meet the criteria set by the university administration for admission to the 5th semester. According to the current policy of the University of Jammu, students must have successfully completed their 1st and 2nd semesters, obtained at least 50% credits in the 3rd semester and passed the 4th semester internal assignments to be eligible for admission. .

These factors have impacted the academic performance of students, making it difficult for them to meet the requirements set by the university. The ABVP believes that the university administration must reconsider and revise these criteria to make the admissions process more inclusive and equitable. The current policy is not only unrealistic but also unfair, and if it remains unchanged, a significant number of students will be excluded from continuing their studies. This situation will have long-term negative effects on the academic and professional future of many students.

Jammu University ABVP President Sahil Choudhary said: The current admission criteria is not in favor of students who face difficulties in getting admission in the 5th semester. We demand a fairer and more accommodating policy that allows students to continue their studies without unnecessary obstacles.

Joint Secretary Sannak Srivats added: “We stand with the students and will not rest until the university administration acknowledges that it has made the necessary changes. The future of many students depends on it.

An ABVP delegation met with the dean of academic affairs and discussed their concerns, urging the administration to change the decision. They warned that if the criteria are not revised, the ABVP will stage stronger protests across Jammu. The dean of academic affairs responded, “We will work on this,” but no immediate changes have been confirmed.
