Prince Harry has opened up about the moment that made him feel “terribly alone”.

It came as he admitted he felt like his father, King Charles, and brother, Prince William, may never have known him after his decision to leave England and start a new life in the United States.

The confession appears in the Duke of Sussex’s memoir, Spare. In it, Harry describes the conversation he had with his older brother regarding Harry’s decision to step back from royal duties with his wife Meghan Markle.

Harry said he “couldn’t believe what I was hearing” during the tense encounter. “It was one thing to disagree about who was at fault or how things could have been different, but for him to claim complete ignorance of why I had fled my homeland – the country for for which I had fought and for which I had been ready to die, my motherland?”, he wrote. “That heavy sentence. To pretend to know nothing about why my wife and I made the drastic decision to pick up our child and run like hell, leaving everything behind: the house, the friends, the furniture? Really ?”

The Duke continued to share his bewilderment at his brother’s reaction before admitting his shock that his father apparently had the same reaction. “If they didn’t know why I left, maybe they just didn’t know me. At all,” he added. ‌”And maybe they never really did.”

Harry added that maybe he didn’t know it either and said it made him feel “colder” and “terribly alone.”
