Incredibly questionable details on Australian number plates lead to shocking discovery

A driver’s attempt to mislead authorities backfired spectacularly. Instead of escaping scrutiny, his bizarre efforts actually led police to exactly what he was trying to hide.

A silver Holden Commodore first came to the attention of police on Sunday after traveling 20km/h above the speed limit in Bankstown, in Sydney’s southwest. But it was the driver’s unusual number plates that sparked particular interest from police.

The number plates were a combination of wrong numbers and made-up letters after the man apparently used a black pen to forge them to make identification difficult.

Once the driver was arrested, he admitted it was the second one of the day, with officers suspending his license in Batemans Bay on the South Coast the same afternoon after he failed a drugs test on the side of the road.

This triggered a second drug test which failed again and officers then searched his car, finding a “small resealable bag containing crystal-like substances believed to be prohibited drugs”.

However, dissatisfied with having found everything, the police took the man to the police station where they quickly got their hands dirty.

The agents “suspected he was still hiding something.” These suspicions prompted them to undergo a final search at the police station where they located a second bag of prohibited drugs.

“Officers found another resealable baggie hidden in his rectum containing additional prohibited drugs,” highway patrol officers wrote online.

The driver was charged with speeding, violating bail conditions, driving with a suspended license, drug possession and driving with altered license plates, which carries a fine of $464 alone.

He will now have to appear in court.

Controversial number plate decisions are not exactly uncommon on Australian roads, with drivers known to choose personalized combinations with hidden meanings that are in some cases mild and in other cases contain politically charged messages . Meanwhile, other drivers have been caught with heavily falsified number plates to avoid detection by road cameras and toll collectors, and another Sydney driver was recently caught wearing no not one, but two plates, to hide the true identification of his vehicle.
