A motorcyclist caught speeding down the Bass Highway at 159 km/h on an unregistered and uninsured Harley Davidson has had his bike seized by police.

The man was stopped by officers east of Sulfur Creek around 3:20 p.m. Thursday while driving more than twice the speed limit.

The motorcyclist was also banned from driving at the time, police said.

His bike was impounded for 28 days and he was charged with several offenses including speeding, driving while unqualified and possessing an unregistered and uninsured vehicle.

The man has been released on bail and is due to appear at Burnie Magistrates Court at a later date.

Inspector Adam Spencer said police would continue to patrol motorways and rural roads.

“Speeding endangers the lives of everyone who uses our roads,” he said.

“While most people are doing the right thing, our traffic enforcement officers are going out every day to target the minority who are doing the wrong thing and putting lives at risk.”
