Rtms Therapy: Advanced rTMS Therapy Now Offered at City Hosp | Nagpur News

Nagpur: Earlier this week, Lata Mangeshkar Hospital (LMH) became the first center in the city to offer repetitive transcranial magnetic stimulation (rTMS) therapy, an innovative treatment seen as a new hope for patients struggling with various neurological diseases. psychiatric disorders. “RTMS is a revolutionary method to treat mental health issues,” said Dr. Sajal Mitra, Dean of NKPSIMS & Research Center and Lata Mangeshkar Hospital. “It uses magnetic pulses to stimulate specific areas of the brain, helping to regulate neurotransmitter levels and improve symptoms,” he explained. “During an rTMS session, the patient sits comfortably in a chair,” explains psychiatrist Dr. Sushil Gawande. “A painless magnetic coil is placed on the scalp, delivering targeted impulses to the brain. There is no anesthesia or medication, making it a safe and well-tolerated outpatient procedure,” he said. “We are committed to bringing this advanced therapy to the people of Nagpur at an affordable cost,” said Dr Sajal Mitra. “This is an important step forward in making effective mental health care accessible to our community,” said Dr. Sudhir Bhave, a veteran psychiatrist who has been associated with LMH for years. Padma Shri Dr Chandrashekhar Meshram, neuro-doctor, dedicated this facility to the public on June 19 and lauded the efforts of LMH in bringing this technology to Vidarbha. He highlighted the importance of tackling mental health, a topic often overlooked in society. “This is a positive step towards improving mental health care in Nagpur. If you or someone you know is suffering from a mental health condition, rTMS may be a potential treatment option. Talk to your doctor to learn more about rTMS,” said Dr. Meshram. Dr Kajal Mitra, former dean, who was instrumental in acquiring the machine at the institute, also spoke about the importance of this addition to the hospital’s mental health department. “This innovative technology offers a promising new approach for patients struggling with mental health issues. It complements our existing treatment methods, providing a more comprehensive and potentially more effective path to recovery for many people,” he said. Dr. Vivek Kirpekar, Dr. Nitin Deosthale, Dr. Vikas Thombre, Dr. Sushil Gawande, Dr. Rahul Tadke and other teachers of NKPSIMS were present on the occasion. Dr. Anand Khare, Dr. Romesh Bagde, Dr. Sanjana Jaiswal, Dr. Smriti Bagde, Dr. Hetvi Shah, Dr. Bhavya Banga, Dr. Ved Kelkar and entire staff of the Department of Psychiatry attended the ceremony.
