160 people caught driving on the wrong side on Saturday

The maximum number of violators arrested on the first day of traffic were on the SG highway

On Saturday, the first day of the department’s campaign against people driving on the wrong side, municipal police arrested more than 160 people for this offense.

They have been booked under section 279 of the IPC (rash/negligent driving) and section 184 of the MV Act (dangerous driving).

Till around 8:30 p.m., more than 160 commuters had been arrested for driving on the wrong side.

According to the data, most of the wrong-way drivers (around 30) were recorded by traffic police stations SG-1 and SG-2, which cover a large part of the SG-2 highway.

More than 15 have been booked in areas such as Ranip, Sabarmati, Chandkheda, Madhavpura and Sabarmati RiverFront (East). In the walled city area, more than 15 people have been booked.

In Vastrapur and Ghatlodia, around 10 such drivers have been booked, while more than 20 have been booked in Danilimda, Kagdapith and Narol.

JCP (traffic) NN Chaudhari said, “In the coming days, driving will become stricter to prevent drivers from moving to the wrong side of the road.

Mirror had in a report on June 17 noted the government’s decision to take strict action against commuters who drive on the wrong side of the road.

MoS (Home) Harsh Sanghavi had said that the punishment of these drivers would go beyond fines and penalties.
