LA’s new district attorney says the Menendez case remains a “high priority.”

After serving George Gascon As Los Angeles County’s new district attorney, Nathan Hochman is playing catch-up on his predecessor’s infamous cases.

“On my side, I will work as quickly as possible,” he said TMZpointing to his years of experience as both a prosecutor and a lawyer. “I’ll be able to go through all this information soon. Certainly, it will be a high priority, just like other similar cases, which are a high priority on my desk.”

Hochman — who noted that the decision will still have to go through the court, the parole board and Governor Gavin Newsom after he has his say — added: “Somehow the Menendezes, like any defendant, deserve a decision.”

After criticizing Gascón during their debate last month for the “suspicious” timing of his sudden interest in the case, Hochman will take office ahead of a December 11 hearing on a possible conviction of the brothers, bringing them significantly closer to their 1996 release could come. imposed penalties

“If District Attorney Gascón really believed they should be resentenced, he would have been considering the resentencing motion for eight months. He had been on the habeas motion for 16 months,” he told TMZ. “He could have gone ahead and done it at any time, but it wouldn’t have helped him during the election because he made his decision 12 days before the election.”

Hochman added: “By making the decision in the middle of a campaign, when he was 30 points behind and had no money in the bank but needed the media attention, he has essentially cast a cloud of credibility over the question or not whether it is really a just decision or whether it was just for his political benefit. Again, if it lands on my desk, I will do the hard work of thoroughly researching the facts and law to make an appropriate decision.
