Kyle Fodness Announces 4 Additions to Bemidji State Women’s Tennis Program

BEMIDJI — Bemidji State women’s tennis head coach Kyle Fodness announced the addition of four student-athletes to the program beginning in the fall of 2024.

Jalyn Halverson, Julia Lindseth, Lauren Rutten and Britney Schhommer have all signed National Letters of Intent to attend and play tennis at Bemidji State in the fall.

All signees are contingent upon admission to BSU and compliance with NCAA rules, including certification by the NCAA Eligibility Center.

Jalyn Halverson – Alexandria

Four-year letter winner for the Alexandria Area High School girls’ tennis program. She was a team captain and All-Central Lakes Conference honorable mention. Halverson qualified for the singles and doubles subsections in 2022 and 2023.

Halverson won the CLC Scholar-Athlete Award in 2023-24, won the Tennis Spotlight Scholarship Outstanding Academic Achievement Gold Award four times, and won the Waterma doubles tennis tournament in 2023. She is a member of the National Honor Society and a member of the Academic Honor Roll.

Julia Lindseth – Eveleth

Lindseth is a standout for the Eveleth-Gilbert High School girls’ tennis program. She was a four-time All-Iron Range Conference selection and was named tennis player of the year by the Mesabi Daily News. Lindseth placed in the top eight at the Minnesota State AA tournament. She is a Section 7AA individual champion, a member of the National Honor Society and a Kiwanis member.

Lauren Rutten – Staples

Rutten is a six-year letter winner for the Staples-Motley High School girls’ tennis and basketball programs. She has recorded more than 125 wins at No. 1 singles, placed third at the 2023 Minnesota State Class A girls’ individual tennis tournament and fourth in doubles. She has played No. 1 singles for the Cardinals since seventh grade, going 25-1 at No. 1 singles in 2023 and 34-2 in 2022.

Rutten helped lead the Cardinals to an undefeated season all the way to the sectional finals in 2023. She is a 1,000-point scorer for the Cardinal women’s basketball program and a four-year starter. Rutten is a member of the A-Honor Roll, a member of the FFA, a member of the choir, a member of the Leadership Council, a member of the Minnesota Honor Society and a recipient of the ExCEL award.

Britney Schhommer – Pierz

Schhommer is a six-year letter winner for the Pierz High School girls’ tennis program and a four-year letter winner in girls’ basketball and softball. Schhommer was a two-time Pioneer team captain, recipient of the Mental Toughness Award and helped the Pioneers finish second in sections. She ranked fourth and third individually in 2023 and 2022, respectively.
Schhommer was named team MVP and Most Improved Doubles Player. She was a three-time All-Granite Ridge Conference selection, a two-time all-section selection and a two-time all-conference selection in basketball and softball. Schhommer received an A-Honor Roll selection, served the Minnesota Honor Society, youth group, Big Brothers Big Sisters, Special Olympics volunteer and earned the Triple-A award.
