Purge Walkout inspired by desire to kill neighbors

Purge Walkout inspired by desire to kill neighbors

Ahead of UFC 303, where he will face Diego Lopes in the evening’s co-main event, Brian Ortega shed light on one of the best UFC walkouts of all time.

At UFC 266, Ortega discussed The Purge, a horror film that envisions an America where murder and other crimes become legal, for short periods of time, so that the population can eliminate the aggressiveness of his system.

Asked about the motivation for the walkout by Cageside Press during Wednesday’s UFC 303 media day, Ortega recalled that “at that time I was living in an apartment, I had left the house and everything when I am separated. And there’s this neighbor upstairs who, every hour, it was like, one in the morning, two in the morning, three in the morning, four in the morning. Like dude, are you guys going to sleep? What’s going on, come on now. I have to fight, I have a world title (shooting), what are you guys doing?

Ortega found himself watching Reels on social media, and the song from the film came up. “The Purge song came on, and I started fantasizing. It’s not the best thing, but if The Purge were real, the first thing I’d do would be run up the stairs. I’m not a snitch, I’m not a complainer, but I even contacted the owner, I was like, “Yo, can you tell them to please shut up?” »

In his defense, Ortega pointed out that his neighbors had already proven themselves to be snitches, denouncing him for playing rough with his children.

“I know they reported me before because I played a little too rough, like I was running around one time and I was like, ‘I’m going to kill you,’ and the kids were screaming, they were about to to do it. I called the cops because they thought I was going to kill my children, it wasn’t that crazy, that’s how you play, but I never did. said nothing.

Eventually, Ortega had no choice but to go to his landlord. It didn’t help.

“Finally I said ‘hey man, whoever’s up there, I don’t mean to be rude but come on now.’ It sounds like they are dragging something on the floor all night Like if you need help let me know After he complains the noise is coming from the. floor got worse, Ortega continued. “It was just in my head, Man, if the Purge was real, I would go upstairs and just take care of business.

Ortega went so far as to consider what mask he would wear and how he would approach the house, in order to (in the fantasy) kill his neighbors. “Cheapest walkout ever, the soundtrack was awesome and I laughed at all of you in the crowd.”

His coaches, he told Cageside Press, were aware of his inspiration. “Oh yeah, I told them, I want to kill my neighbors right now. At this moment.”

How did Brian Ortega resolve his problems with his neighbors? By getting rid of it, in a different way. “I bought a house. »
