Kolkata: The Trinamool Congress, SP and Congress are exploring the possibility of fielding SP MP from Faizabad, Awadhesh Prasad, as the candidate for vice-president of the INDIA bloc. This comes amid reports that the Congress wanted K Suresh – eight-time MP from Kerala – to be chosen as vice-president of the opposition bloc. TMC general secretary Abhishek Banerjee, SP president Akhilesh Yadav and Leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi have already discussed it, sources said, and are expected to discuss it with others alliance partners. Sources say Prasad’s appointment was an idea of Bengal CM and Trinamool chief Mamata Banerjee, who conveyed it to Abhishek. According to certain sources, the three leaders of the INDIA bloc seem to agree on the fact that Prasad would be an “outstanding” candidate and that his nomination would have “strong symbolism” since Ayodhya was part of the Faizabad LS constituency that Prasad, 78 years old, won by more than 50,000 votes.
