Maryland State Police Prepare to Increase Traffic Enforcement for a Safer Independence Day – Southern Maryland News NetMaryland State Police will ramp up enforcement efforts against drunk, aggressive and distracted driving starting Wednesday through the Fourth of July weekend.

State troopers from Maryland’s 23 barracks will conduct saturation patrols Wednesday through Monday. The increased enforcement efforts are funded by the Maryland Department of Transportation’s Motor Vehicle Administration’s Office of Highway Safety. The state police’s Impaired Driver Reduction Team, a specialized unit trained to identify impaired drivers, will also work to reduce alcohol-related injuries and deaths. The SPIDRE team is funded by a grant from the Maryland Office of Highway Safety.

Maryland State Police safety initiatives are designed to prevent dangerous driving behavior and save lives. These initiatives may include partnering with allied law enforcement and state agencies to provide enforcement and community outreach through social media. Planned initiatives include:
