Money Chicha, Boogaloo, O2.0 (control room) – Music calendar

Last summer, while playing at Drag with Grupo Fantasma/Brownout/Money Chicha frontman Beto Martinez, the Latinx man marveled at the Laredo-born guitarist’s pure heat. Money Chicha’s cumbia-psych fuses core styles as if they’d cooked them up in the pibil style of radiated earth. Martinez laughed, saying they plan to play more. A showcase at SXSW 2024 and a string of local shows are on the horizon. “High on Fire, Windhand, Idles, American Sharks,” he noted of his pandemic playlist, “but also the Meters and Funkadelic to Erkin Koray and Baris Manco, and of course heavy doses of chicha from Los Orientales, Los Destellos, and Manzanita.” Raoul Hernandez
