Long Beach City College Announces Hiring of New Leadership Team Members

At its June 26 meeting, the Long Beach Community College District (LBCCD) Board of Trustees certified the hiring of three senior administrative employees for Long Beach City College (LBCC).

The board unanimously approved LBCC’s new vice president of workforce and economic development, interim vice president of administrative and business services and dean of the School of Professional Education.

“We have been fortunate to have a very strong candidate pool for these key leadership positions and I am confident that we have the best candidates to fill these critically important positions,” said Dr. Mike Muñoz, LBCCD superintendent-president. “I am extremely grateful for the role their predecessors played in maintaining the momentum of the college as we looked to fill these positions permanently.”

The new members of the LBCC Executive Leadership Team are:

  • Vice President of Economic Development and Workforce: Kendra Madrid
  • Acting Vice President of Administrative and Commercial Services:Michael Gregoryk
  • Dean of the School of Professional Education: Gita Runkle

Madrid previously held administrative and workforce development positions in higher education, with a focus on diversity, equity, inclusion, and accessibility (DEIA) initiatives and economic empowerment. She previously served as dean of instructional services and workforce development and innovation at East Los Angeles College.

Gregoryk has more than four decades of leadership experience in education and community colleges. He spent 15 years as vice president of administrative services at Mt. San Antonio College and prior to that, he served as vice chancellor of the Ventura County Community College District and interim president of Oxnard and Ventura colleges.

Runkle has spent 19 years in higher education and corporate marketing, with leadership experience at Miami Dade College, Santa Monica College and Rio Hondo College, where she served as the school’s dean of business. Her experience in corporate marketing has led her to work with major companies such as Procter & Gamble and Royal Caribbean.

“We are excited to support Dr. Muñoz in his selection of new leaders for his executive team,” LBCCD Board Chair Vivian Malauulu said in a public statement. “They all have impressive resumes, with diverse and strong industry backgrounds that will help LBCC reach out and create more opportunities for our students.”
