Dramatic moment: Car engulfed in flames on M56 near Manchester Airport

Dramatic video has shown the moment a car was engulfed in flames near Manchester Airport on Monday afternoon (June 10).

Emergency services were called to the scene of the blaze on the Airport Road towards the M56 at around 2.30pm. Videos posted online showed how thick columns of black smoke covered the area as the car caught fire.

Firefighters spent around an hour at the scene trying to extinguish the blaze. Greater Manchester Police have been contacted for further details about the incident.

A spokesperson for Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service (GMFRS) said: “At around 2.30pm this afternoon (Monday 10 June) a fire engine from Wythenshawe Fire Station was called to a car fire on the M56 westbound from Manchester Airport.

“Crews arrived quickly and used two hose reels and breathing apparatus to extinguish the fire.

“Firefighters worked to secure the area before leaving after approximately an hour on scene.”
