Ollie Watkins’ girlfriend shares 3-word message after 28-year-old’s heroic goal helped England win Euro semi-final against Netherlands

England have every reason to celebrate as the Three Lions have booked their place in the Euro 2024 finals. Despite trailing by a goal, Gareth Southgate‘s men bounced back in style, recording a 2-1 victory. While captain Harry Kane made things better for his country, Aston Villa hitman Ollie Watkins stole the show.

Gareth Southgate brought the star on as part of a double substitution with Cole Palmer coming on in the 80th minute. With Harry Kane and Phil Foden both out, the two substitutes took it upon themselves to take England to the final. Palmer played a key role by providing a perfect assist for Watkins when the striker slotted the ball into the bottom left corner in the 90th minute, sending the fans into a frenzy. Consequently, his girlfriend reacted instantly.

Ollie Watkins’ girlfriend Ellie Alderson was also present at the game in Dortmund. Alderson shared a story for her boyfriend on her Instagram account with the words: “You deserve it.”

Fans and pundits alike were delighted with the striker’s performance as he helped England turn the game around. However, while some may have been surprised by the goal, Ollie Watkins had no doubts that he would help his team make history when he stepped onto the pitch.

Ollie Watkins stays true to his word

The England star knew he was in for a treat when he spoke about his conversation with substitute team-mate Cole Palmer after that thumping win. Watkins said: “I swear on my children’s lives that I told Cole Palmer earlier today that we would get to the game, he would give me an assist and I would score. And that’s exactly what happened.”

The Aston Villa striker then added: “I really don’t have words for it. When you score, you feel emotions, but this is a different feeling. It was in slow motion when I was running to the boys and celebrating. I told Cole that we were both going to come on the field and he was going to serve me at halftime. It happened. I signaled it. As soon as he turned around, I knew I had to make the move. You don’t get that opportunity very often. I had to be greedy.”

England will now look to build on this momentum as they take on Spain in the final. Both teams are unbeaten so far in the competition and will be keen to end the tournament on a high. Who do you think will win Euro 2024: England or Spain? Let us know in the comments below.
