Meet Arjan, Regional IT/OT Project Specialist at Mondelēz International

Tell us about your career path at MDLZ.

I joined Mondelēz International (MDLZ) as an intern as part of my undergraduate studies in Computer Science. I enjoyed my internship so much that I applied to MDLZ’s graduate program, where I worked in the Digital Experience Tower and oversaw the IT function for Consumer Insights and the Social Media Management domain.

After two years, I moved to a new role as a regional IT/OT project specialist within the manufacturing sector. I oversaw regional projects, often serving as a project leader and supporting critical project activities including digitalization, virtualization and facility security.

Over the past few months, I have taken on a new role as Head of S/4 Hana Devices, Network and Integration and will be driving elements of strategic global projects.

Having been an intern here myself, I always wanted to manage and mentor early career employees and was fortunate to have the opportunity to support the recruitment process for future interns and graduates. I also had an intern who reported to me and mentored other employees.

What is the most rewarding aspect of working at MDLZ?

One of the most rewarding parts of working at MDLZ is learning new things every day. I’ve been here for over five years and not a day has gone by that I haven’t learned something new or felt challenged. My curiosity drives me to learn and challenge myself, which motivates me to work every day. I also find it rewarding to be part of a global company that is constantly innovating and evolving. There are always opportunities for growth and development, and MDLZ encourages collaboration and creativity.

Working at MDLZ has allowed me to develop my skills, expand my knowledge and build a strong network within the organization. I am grateful for the support and opportunities I have received and look forward to making valuable contributions to the company’s future projects and initiatives.

How does MDLZ’s commitment to diversity and inclusion manifest in your role as an IT/OT Project Specialist?

As a Sikh man wearing a turban, I often worry about how people will treat me, given that I am different from those around me. However, MDLZ is very committed to diversity and inclusion, providing various resources and practical ways to be inclusive and embed the essence of diversity in everything we do.

Overall, this has had a positive impact on my experience as a career path, fostering a more inclusive and supportive work environment.

How does Mondelēz International support the professional development and growth of its employees?

At MDLZ, we receive daily support to grow in a number of ways. We have an internal learning portal and regular meetings to learn about new topics. Recently, Mondelez launched “Match & Grow,” a gig work arrangement that allows employees to take on a different job for a short period of time, giving them a taste of a distinct function that aligns with their personal development goals. We also offer mentoring programs where our leaders support the career development of new employees. In addition, cross-functional and cross-border assignment opportunities provide exposure to different markets and business functions. MDLZ places great importance on the growth and development of its employees, providing them with the resources and support they need to excel in their roles.

Can you describe a project you have worked on that you are particularly proud of?

Digitizing our factories through IoT applications. I am proud to work on this project because it allowed us to reduce losses, and therefore our carbon footprint. I have also worked on projects to deploy an AI-based knowledge management and trend creation solution. It is rewarding to be part of projects that have a positive impact on the company and the environment.

What is the corporate culture like at MDLZ?

I have been fortunate to travel internationally to many of our company’s plants and offices and see the diversity and cultural differences. I am happy to work for a company that embraces and celebrates everyone’s beliefs and cultures. MDLZ has a very family-oriented culture and, to me, that is what makes it a great place to work. MDLZ is a place where we strive to work together to improve the company we work for.
