Udupi CMC warns of cancellation of license for using banned plastic

Udupi, July 13: The Udupi City Municipal Council (CMC) is stepping up its efforts to prevent infectious diseases like dengue, malaria and chickenpox during the rainy season by imposing a ban on the use of plastic in its jurisdiction.

Recent investigations by the Municipal Council have resulted in fines totalling Rs 8,300 being imposed on 9 shops for non-compliance with cleanliness rules. In addition, inspections of 17 shop fronts have resulted in fines amounting to Rs 46,500 for using banned plastic.

Despite warnings from the municipal council, if shop owners fail to maintain cleanliness and continue using banned plastic, the municipal commissioner has warned that he may revoke their business licenses.
