Air ambulance called as train services cancelled

An air ambulance was called and train services were cancelled at a station in Norfolk.

Emergency services were called to Attleborough station at around 6pm after reports someone had nearly hit a train.

A Greater Anglia spokesperson said: “Some services between Norwich and Ely were disrupted last night while security checks were carried out.

“Network Rail were present and a replacement bus service was operating during the line closure.”

Affected routes include East Midland Railways trains between Norwich, Sheffield and Liverpool Lime Street and Greater Anglia trains between Norwich, Cambridge and Stansted Airport.

Greater Anglia tickets were accepted on Great Northern services between Ely and Cambridge as well as on CrossCountry services between Ely and Stansted Airport.

An East of England Ambulance Service said: “A thorough search was carried out with colleagues from the police, British Transport Police and the fire and rescue service.

“No patients have been found and it is believed they narrowly avoided being hit by the train.”

Firefighters from Wymondham and Attleborough were also present.
