Man Creates ‘Darkest Room in the World’ by Painting It With ‘Blackest Black Paint’

Have you ever wondered what it would be like to sit in a void? Well, wonder no more, because one man decided to show just how disorienting the world’s blackest paint can be by painting a room with it.

It’s a little weird, sure, but this man can certainly boast of having probably the darkest room in the world.

YouTuber James Orgill, who runs the channel The Action Lab, took his viewers on a strange and fascinating journey of scientific discovery with a video in 2021.

In the video, which has been viewed more than 8 million times on YouTube, we see what it would look like if you painted the world with “the world’s blackest paint.”

So what’s the blackest paint, you ask? Well, according to one company, it’s Musou Black.

Explaining how dark it is, the company’s website states: “General black acrylic paints absorb about 94-98% of light, however, Musou Black absorbs up to 99.4% of light in the visible light range.

“This water-based acrylic paint can be easily applied with an airbrush or brush. Achieving brilliant blackness has never been easier!”

And rather than sacrifice a room in his home, Orgill instead created a room to paint black.

You might think that black is black and there would actually be no noticeable difference, well… you would be completely wrong.

On social media, many people have commented that the effect is so convincing that it looks like Orgill simply made the room darker using green screen effects.

“Imagine a room painted like this with just a few string lights leading into it that are always on. The sun will never wake you up again by making your room too bright,” one user wrote on YouTube.

“It looks like a movie with green screen effects. A black slate in front of which we are animated. It’s incredible,” commented another.

“I would love a little room like this to just come in and relax, it would be really calming,” wrote one rather optimistic user, I think it would be more creepy than anything else.

“This would be the scariest interrogation room, just imagine this room with an old wooden desk with handcuffs built in and one of those old hanging lights that you can use to blind the person you are interrogating,” added one rather imaginative user.

If you think this looks pretty cool and would like to get your hands on it, well, it’s not exactly cheap.

Purchasing a one-liter bottle will cost you around EUR 235.00 ($256.63).

But you can think of it as a necessary cost to allow you to show your friends that you have the darkest room in the friend group.

Because why not?
