Child dies in fiery crash after Good Samaritan father tries to save them

LAKELAND, Fla. (Gray News) – A young child died in a fiery crash in Florida after their father and a good Samaritan tried to save them, officers said.

The Polk County Sheriff’s Office said a vehicle carrying a father and his two young children drove through an intersection, drove into a grassy, wooded area and struck a tree before bursting into flames.

The father and a good Samaritan tried to get the children out of the backseat. Officers said the two were able to save one of the children, “but the other child tragically died in the fire.”

The father and surviving child were taken to hospital to be treated for their injuries. The Good Samaritan was also treated at the hospital for burns sustained while helping.

The investigation into the crash is still ongoing.
