Mayor Chris Koos announces re-election bid for sixth term

NORMAL, Ill. (WMBD) — In a Monday morning announcement, Normal Mayor Chris Koos said he seeks re-election in the April 2025 consolidated election for an anticipated sixth term.

In a press release from this office Monday, Koos said his “guiding belief is that you don’t just live in great communities, you work to make great communities.”

Koos has served as mayor since February 2003, leading the town through a vital transformation with his experience as a Vietnam veteran. He said he does not take the responsibility of mayor lightly.

Koos also served as vice president of the Illinois Municipal League on the Amtrak Board of Directors and as vice chair of the Transportation Committee of the U.S. Conference of Mayors, according to the press release.

He also owned and operated an area small business, Vitesse Cycle Shop and Often Running in Normal, for more than four decades.

“In partnership with my fellow council members, a dedicated town staff and community stakeholders we have worked to bring Normal into the unique and wonderful place it is today. There is more we can accomplish together. “I am the right choice for Normal, with the necessary experience and passion to continue leading Normal,” he said.
