Oldham County Traffic Stop Uncovers 242 Pounds of Suspected Cocaine

The Texas Department of Public Safety announced that more than 242 pounds of suspected cocaine were seized after a Texas Highway Patrol trooper stopped a vehicle in Oldham County last week.

DPS said that at approximately 1:49 p.m. Friday, July 12, a state trooper stopped a 2020 Kia Sportage traveling east on Interstate 40 near Vega for a traffic violation. During the stop, the trooper found three large duffle bags containing 100 bricks of cocaine wrapped in plastic in the rear cargo area, according to DPS.

Agents from the DPS Criminal Investigation Division and the Drug Enforcement Administration were contacted and assisted in the investigation. DPS said DEA special agents took charge of the case.

The driver, identified as Ezequiel Canela-Cabrera, 29, of Kissimmee, Florida, was arrested and booked into the Randall County Jail on a charge of criminal possession of a controlled substance.

The drugs were reportedly transported from Las Vegas, Nevada, to Boston, Massachusetts.
