The Islamabad High Court (IHC) on Monday ordered the release of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) activist Sanam Javaid and restrained the police and other law enforcement agencies from arresting her till Thursday, while strictly advising her to “maintain silence” in the meantime.

The firebrand activist of the Imran Khan-founded party, who was arrested and rearrested in several cases related to the May 9 chaos, was taken back into custody by the Capital Territory police on Sunday, an hour after she was released from the custody of the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA).

A duty magistrate of a district and sessions court in Islamabad had allowed Javaid to move freely a day after he was arrested by the investigation agency’s team in a terrorism case related to the May 9 riots. Saturday’s arrest came minutes after he was released from a Gujranwala jail following his acquittal in another case on similar charges.

She was, however, released on Sunday after the Islamabad court acquitted her of the charges against her in the FIA case, but she was handcuffed by the police just an hour after her release.

According to authorities, Javaid was arrested in a case related to a provocative speech recorded in Balochistan under sections of the anti-terrorism law.

Today, the head of PTI’s social media campaign was produced before a district kachehri a court in the federal capital to seek his temporary transfer to Balochistan.

Meanwhile, his father has filed a petition in the Islamabad High Court (IHC) against his “illegal custody”.

During the hearing at the kachehri Today, the judge was ordered by the High Court to produce Javaid before the High Court, where Justice Mian Gul Hassan presided over the hearing, in the presence of Islamabad Inspector General Ali Nasir Rizvi and FIA officials.

The petitioner’s counsel requested the court to direct the authorities to submit the First Information Report (FIR) regarding the latest arrest of the PTI stalwart by the Islamabad police.

The authorities then informed the court that Javaid had not been named in the FIR but the Balochistan Police had sought their help for her arrest in the terrorism case.

However, due to paucity of time, the court sought all the records of cases registered against Javaid in the past year and allowed her family to take her home.

The IHC also barred authorities from re-arresting the former ruling party stalwart till Thursday, while ordering him to stay within Islamabad limits till Thursday.

The court strongly advised Javaid and his father to avoid making any hard-hitting statements during this period.

The PTI activist has been behind bars for almost a year, implicated in various cases, all related to the vandalism and unrest triggered by the arrest of PTI founder Imran Khan on May 9, 2023.

Before the latest case filed in Balochistan, 12 cases had been registered against her, including the Zaman Park vandalism, the PML-N house burning and an incident at the Racecourse police station.

She was acquitted in a total of four cases, including the last FIA case, and was granted bail in the remaining eight cases.
