Love Island star horrified by Jay Slater news and says she is ‘shocked’ by latest developments in Tenerife

Love Island star Sam Gowland has followed up on previous posts commenting on the case of missing teenager Jay Slater with a reaction to the latest update.

The TV personality, who has also appeared on Geordie Shore, wrote: “Absolutely shocked #jayslater #tenerife #explore #explorepage #fypage #foryou #foryoupage,” reacting to news that a body had been found in the Masca area of the popular holiday island of Tenerife.

Jay, a 19-year-old apprentice mason, disappeared on June 17 in a remote area of Tenerife after visiting the island for a three-day music festival with friends. He left them to go to a remote Airbnb rental with two other people in the early hours of the morning, and his last location via his phone was the Parque Rural de Teno nature reserve.

On Monday, July 15, Spanish police in Tenerife released a statement saying they had found a body and were in the process of identifying it, with officers telling reporters that “the evidence strongly suggests” the remains were those of Jay.

Sam Gowland had already shared his opinion on the case with his million followers on social media. On Saturday 6 July, he called for British police to be sent to Tenerife to investigate, writing: “What the hell is going on?”

Frustrated by the lack of progress at the time, he continued: “I just don’t understand why it’s been two weeks now and there hasn’t been any significant progress. Why haven’t they sent the British police when everyone involved in this is British?”

Sam, who appeared on Love Island in 2017, is not shy about sharing his opinions. Last year, he took to TikTok after fans criticised his dental work. After spending £6,000 on dental veneers in Turkey, he was bombarded with negative comments and defended his decision to have the surgery in the country.

In the video, he said: “I’m a little pissed off. To be honest with you, every time I do a TikTok or a video, people comment, and I know it’s for attention.” He continued, “People who comment like ‘worst teeth I’ve ever seen, they look like a pack of gum, they look like a mouthguard, they look like piano keys’…

“The teeth cost £6,000 to have fitted. There’s a reason they cost £6,000. It’s because I went to the best in the world to have them fitted. I said I went to Turkey because that’s where the best veneers are.”

The viral star has also shared videos and photos of other work he’s done, including a beard transplant in 2022.
