Upper Room Theatre, a theater group affiliated with All Saints Catholic Church, will present the musical Freaky Friday from July 16 to 21.

The musical will be presented at the All Saints Catholic Church Performing Arts Center on Stonewall Road in Manassas. The cast and crew are comprised of theater lovers of all ages and backgrounds, both amateur and professional.

Now in its 23rd year, the Upper Room Theatre has won numerous accolades, including the “Community Theatre of the Decade” award from Broadway World’s DC Regional Awards, and the 2021 Seefeldt Award from the Prince William Arts Council for “Outstanding Arts Organization.”

Since 2002, its award-winning summer musicals have drawn large crowds, not only among theatergoers, but also among show attendees.

Artists come from Virginia, Washington, D.C., Maryland, and West Virginia. Young and old members of the community also participate in the summer production as cast and crew members. Everyone, including professionals, donates their time and talents to the production and the mission.

This year’s production of Freaky Friday is an all-new musical, based on the novel by Mary Rodgers and the popular Disney version of the same name. It tells the story of a mother, Katherine, and her teenage daughter, Ellie, who magically swap bodies on the eve of Katherine’s wedding. Scrambling to find a solution, they must literally spend the day in each other’s shoes.

Through comedic scenes and captivating numbers, the characters find themselves in funny situations that ultimately lead to a deeper understanding between mother and daughter.

A major theme of the show, the strength of family ties, is truly lived by the Upper Room Theatre community itself. Countless people return each year because of their shared value of giving back to their community with a Christian spirit through professional level theatre.

Tickets are $16 for youth and $24 for adults. Proceeds will support nearly 300 programs that greatly benefit youth and young adults in the Manassas community. Visit UpperRoomTickets.com for more information.
