Female governors endorse Harris

The nation’s eight female Democratic governors joined forces virtually Friday to support Vice President Kamala Harris’ presidential campaign.

“Believe me, being a woman in the executive branch is not easy,” Michigan Gov. Gretchen Whitmer said in a video posted to social media.

“But no one is more qualified to be our next president than Vice President Harris,” Kansas Gov. Laura Kelly continued.

“She is ready to do this on day one,” New Mexico Gov. Michelle Lujan Grisham said. “As a former prosecutor, Vice President Harris will lead the fight against Trump, a convicted felon that Republicans chose to represent them.”

Arizona Governor Katie Hobbs highlights the stakes of this election.

“We must protect reproductive freedom and preserve our democracy,” Hobbs said.

Massachusetts Governor Maura Healey reminds viewers what Harris helped accomplish.

“We have worked together to implement the historic achievements of the Biden-Harris administration that improve the lives of the people we serve,” Healey said.

Whitmer then delivers the message home.

“So I’m all in and together we’re going to make sure Democrats, from the White House to the governor’s offices and everything in between, succeed in November,” she concluded.

That group of women could get a bonus if Harris and her running mate, Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz, win in November. A Democratic victory would increase the number of female governors by one woman: Peggy Flanagan, Minnesota’s current lieutenant governor.

If Walz is elected vice president, Flanagan will become governor. Not only would she be the first woman from Minnesota to hold the office, she would also be the first woman to hold the office. first Native American female governor in the United States
