From betel nuts to excrement: Raj Thackeray's MNS workers throw excrement, tomatoes at Uddhav Thackeray's Shiv Sena (UBT) convoy in Thane
Following an attack on Raj Thackeray’s car by Shiv Sena (UBT) members, MNS workers retaliated by throwing cow dung and other objects at Uddhav Thackeray’s convoy in Thane.

THANE: A day after the members of the Shiv Sena (UBT) threw betel nuts at the car of MNS Chief Raj Thackeray in Beed, MNS workers threw cow dung, bangles, tomatoes and coconuts on the convoy of Uddhav Thackeray when he approached the Gadkari Rangayatan to Thane to address his party workers.
MNS workers staged a protest outside Gadkari Rangayatan on Saturday night and objects were hurled as Uddhav’s convoy approached the spot. Police arrested several MNS workers involved in the act. They claimed that their actions were in retaliation for the Beed incident.
On Friday, members of the Sena (UBT) attacked Raj Thackeray’s convoy and asked him from whom he had taken the ‘supari’ (contract) for the assembly elections. The police arrested eight people. The protesters also targeted Raj because of his stand on the Maratha quota.
Beed police have named five people, led by Sena (UBT) Beed district president Ganesh Warekar, as accused of illegally organising the agitation and the illegal assembly. Warekar told TOI, “Though I am a party leader, we protested as Marathas. Raj Thackeray has no right to criticise our reservation demand.”
Raj on Saturday said those who threw betel nuts at his car were workers of the Sena (UBT) and the NCP (SP) and were not linked to the Marathi agitation. “They raised some Marathi slogans, but they are from these parties. I want to caution people against allowing political parties to fan communal tensions in Maharashtra,” he said while talking to reporters in Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar.
Earlier in the day, the UBT Sena tried to distance itself from the incident, saying Beed’s act was neither supported nor sanctioned by the party. RS MP Sanjay Raut said, “The people who threw betel nuts could be Shiv Sena (UBT) leaders. However, as a party, we have nothing to do with this agitation. As per our information, the agitation was related to Marathi reservation. Raj Thackeray had made a statement related to reservation. All Marathi youth associated with different parties are opposing his statement.”
Raj said on Saturday that his party’s position was that reservations should be given only for economic reasons.
