Frontier Airlines Announces New Nonstop Service to Sarasota

CINCINNATI (WXIX) — Frontier Airlines is adding new nonstop flights between Cincinnati/Northern Kentucky International Airport and Sarasota, Florida.

The low-cost airline will launch new nonstop service between CVG and Sarasota Bradenton International Airport this fall.

Fares will start at $29 initially, but must be purchased by 11:49 p.m. EST on September 2.

The Sarasota service will operate weekly beginning Saturday, October 12, becoming Frontier’s 20th route to CVG.

Frequency and times are subject to change.

Sarasota and the barrier islands off its coast, such as Siesta Key with its powdery white sand and azure waters, have been popular vacation and spring break destinations for tri-state residents for decades.

“We are excited to see another option for local travelers to travel to the Florida Gulf Coast from CVG as this area continues to grow in popularity in our region,” said Candace McGraw, airport general manager.

Since McGraw became CEO 13 years ago this summer, CVG has added four low-cost carriers and become a dual-hub cargo airport with both one of the world’s largest DHL hubs and an Amazon air hub.

Frontier Airlines began service to CVG in 2013, becoming the airport’s first low-cost carrier, followed by Allegiant Airlines in 2014 and Southwest Airlines in 2017.

Last year, CVG welcomed British Airways with the only direct flight between the UK and all of Ohio, Kentucky and Indiana. Low-cost carrier Breeze Airways also began service in February 2023.

Frontier says its new route to Sarasota further underscores its investment in Greater Cincinnati, following the official opening of a crew base at CVG in May.

The base is expected to employ 80 pilots and 160 flight attendants in the first year of operation.

Combining maintenance and airport positions, the airline is expected to generate nearly $27 million a year in local wages.

“Cincinnati has made us feel at home as we grew up in the community, and we are excited to offer affordable and convenient travel to sunny Sarasota just in time for the colder months,” said Josh Flyr, vice president of operations and network design, Frontier Airlines.

“With the launch of this line, consumers in the Greater Cincinnati area will have access to 20 destinations combined with Frontier’s exceptional value and superior travel experience.”
