Trump issues ominous message about ‘Kamala’s open border’

Former President Donald Trump stepped up his rhetoric on illegal immigration on Sunday, posting a disturbing image on X, formerly Twitter, regarding Vice President Kamala Harris and security at the U.S.-Mexico border.

The image, posted on the former president’s official X account and viewed nearly 5 million times, shows a shadowy man brandishing a knife and approaching a woman in a dimly lit alley. The photo reads, “No one is safe with Kamala’s open border,” an apparent reference to her outspoken criticism of the Biden administration’s immigration policies on the southern border.

Some Republicans, including Trump and his running mate, Ohio Sen. J.D. Vance, have called Harris Biden’s “border czar,” though she has never been formally given that title. Biden has tasked her with addressing the “root causes” of immigration to the United States from El Salvador, Guatemala and Honduras.

Republican presidential nominee Trump continued to release more disturbing campaign photos Sunday signaling the destruction of the United States with a potential Harris presidency.

Newsweek reached out to the Trump campaign and Harris’ spokesperson by email Sunday for comment.

In an ad that aired this summer, Trump accused Harris, the Democratic presidential nominee, of “intentionally destabilizing the border.” The ad claimed the vice president had “stopped construction of President Trump’s border wall” and “taken more than 94 executive actions to destabilize the border.”

Trump has repeatedly targeted Harris in his campaign messages. In August, he shared a bulleted list on X detailing how “KAMALA INTENTIONALLY DESECURED THE BORDER.” The post, which at the time had been viewed 5.5 million times, included claims that Harris “opposes all deportations” and “supports deadly sanctuary cities.”

The former president also accused Harris of supporting a “massive amnesty for millions of illegal immigrants” and wanting to “give them government benefits.”

Harris, meanwhile, defended the Biden administration’s approach to illegal immigration, saying long-term solutions are needed to address the complexity of the situation.

At a joint press conference with Guatemalan President Alejandro Giammattei in 2021, Harris said the United States “will continue to enforce our laws and secure our borders. If you come to our border, you will be turned away.”

The Biden administration has defended its border policy, highlighting increased funding for border security technology and personnel. Officials also point to efforts to work with Central American countries to address drivers of migration, including poverty, violence and climate change.

At Harris’ campaign rally in Atlanta, she said the former president “doesn’t care about the border, he only cares about himself.”

“Donald Trump has talked a lot about securing our border, but he doesn’t act like he does…”

Republicans, however, say those measures have not been enough to stem the flow of migrants at the southern border. U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) reported more than 2 million migrant encounters at the U.S.-Mexico border in fiscal year 2023, a record. Rep. Tony Gonzales, a Texas Republican, recently held a news conference in Texas, accusing the Biden-Harris administration of not doing enough to enforce stricter border security measures.

“The Biden-Harris administration has forgotten us. They have abandoned us. We are on our own. We have been left to fend for ourselves. So we can either complain about the problem or we can roll up our sleeves and get to work,” he said.
