Venezuela revokes Brazil’s detention of diplomatic mission sheltering six Maduro opponents

CARACAS, Venezuela — The Venezuelan government has revoked Brazil’s authorization to serve as guard for Argentina’s diplomatic missions in the country, alleging that several anti-government opponents holed up for months in the residence of the Argentine ambassador had planned terrorist acts from the compound.

In a statement released Saturday, the Venezuelan Foreign Ministry said it had notified Brazil of its decision, which will take effect immediately. It explained that it was forced to take the measure based on what it called evidence — which it did not disclose — that the people who had sought refuge in the Argentine diplomatic mission were plotting to assassinate President Nicolás Maduro and Vice President Delcy Rodríguez.
