Apalachee High School announces plan for ‘phased’ return to class on September 23

ATLANTA, Ga. (Atlanta News First) — Apalachee High School students will return to school the week of Sept. 23, according to the Barrow County school system.

Superintendent Dr. Dallas LeDuff and Apalachee High School Principal Jessica Rehberg released a video statement in a letter to families.

Rehberg said the district is planning a “thoughtful and phased return,” including on-campus mental health support and off-site classes.

On Wednesday, September 4, a mass shooting at Apalachee High School claimed the lives of two teachers and two students and sent nine others to the hospital. Christian Angulo, Mason Schermerhorn, Cristina Irimie and Richard Aspinwall were killed.

Classes in the district were suspended for several days after the deadly shooting. On Tuesday, students returned to all Barrow County schools except Apalachee High School.
