Chief Justice Dr Syed Refaat Ahmed has announced a plan to create a separate secretariat for the judiciary to ensure the independence of the judiciary.

The Chief Justice made the announcement during a speech to 2,000 judges from subordinate courts across the country today (September 21) in the inner garden of the Supreme Court, where he laid out a road map for the judiciary.

“I have sought the government’s help to ensure the independence of the judiciary. That is why a separate secretariat will be created. It will be placed under the authority of the Supreme Court,” he said.

“Separate policies will be formulated for promotion of judges. Also, a rule is required for appointment of Supreme Court judges,” the CJ added.

Meanwhile, Legal Advisor Dr Asif Nazrul and Attorney General Md Asaduzzaman also addressed the event.

The event was attended by judges of the Supreme Court and High Court, judges of subordinate courts and head of the judicial reform committee Justice Shah Abu Naim Mominur Rahman.
