After the body of a 29-year-old woman was found stuffed in her refrigerator, cut into over 30 pieces, in Bengaluru, her mother said the landlord called her to say there was a foul smell in her daughter’s apartment.

“The owner of Mahalakshmi’s house called us in the night to inform us about a foul smell coming from the house. My daughter’s body was cut up and stuffed in the refrigerator,” the mother was quoted as saying by a report in India Today.

Neighbors informed the landlord and police after noticing a foul odor coming from his apartment due to the decomposition of the body.

The victim, identified as Mahalakshmi, was a resident of a one-bedroom flat in Bengaluru’s Vyalikaval area. She was married but lived away from her husband. According to PTI, Mahalakshmi’s husband came to the spot after being informed about the incident.

According to the police, the murder took place two or three days ago. Mahalakshmi’s body was sent for postmortem on September 22. The investigation report is awaited.

Police said that when the woman’s family arrived at the apartment, they found insects crawling near the refrigerator. After opening the refrigerator, they came out vomiting upon seeing the cut and rotten pieces of the body.

The murder of the 29-year-old woman in Bengaluru brings back chilling memories of the Shraddha Walker murder case. Shraddha Walker was murdered by her partner Aftab Poonawala in Mehrauli, Delhi on May 18, 2022. Poonawala, 28, allegedly strangled Walker and cut her body into 35 pieces. The body parts were then dumped in different parts of the city and in the forests of Mehrauli. Before disposing of the body parts, Aftab kept them in a 300-litre refrigerator at his home for about three weeks.
