Kumari Selja clarified that there was no discontent within the party but some internal issues were being resolved as part of its continued progress.

Congress leader Kumari Selja on Monday rejected Union Minister Manohar Lal Khattar’s offer to join the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), amid reports of internal conflicts in the party ahead of the Haryana polls.

The 61-year-old Congress leader and a prominent Dalit figure in the party said BJP leaders should refrain from giving her advice.

“Congress runs in my veins. Just like my father was wrapped in the party flag, I too will leave in the same way,” Selja said at an event organised by AajTak.

While discussing the internal dynamics of the Congress, Kumari Selja clarified that there was no discontent within the party but some internal issues were being resolved as part of its continued progress.

“There are always internal discussions that are not meant to be made public. The party is moving forward and these are routine matters in decision-making,” she added.

On the selection of candidates, Selja said it was the party’s prerogative to make such decisions, adding: “Anyone can make a complaint. My statements may have worried some people, but that is the nature of politics.”

While recent reports indicate that Selja is staying away from the election campaign, former Haryana Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar has invited her to join the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP).

Suggesting that his party was ready, he also said that nothing could be ruled out in a world of possibilities.

“Our Dalit sister is sitting at home. A large section of the population is now thinking about what she should do. Many people were unhappy with her and we have brought them into the party. We are ready to make an offer to her and if she comes, we are ready to bring her in,” Khattar said.

Months after winning the Lok Sabha elections from Sirsa, the former Union minister had indicated her desire to contest the next assembly elections and said she wanted to work in the state, but the high command did not field her.
