Eastern Iowa mother seeks public’s help after August hit-and-run

CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa (KCRG) – An eastern Iowa mother is asking for help finding the person who hit her daughter on Edgewood Road southwest in August.

In the video above, you can see a 14-year-old girl on a moped turning onto Edgewood Road at the intersection with Edgewood Parkway.

That’s when she was hit by a red car and knocked the moped over. Police say the car was likely a 2005-2009 Buick LaCrosse.

The driver of the car stops briefly and then drives off again.

The mother posted the video on Facebook, asking for help finding the person in the car.

Cedar Rapids police responded to the scene shortly after 1:30 p.m. on Aug. 17. Officers reviewed traffic camera footage like the one above, but found the car’s license plate could not be read. Police said all leads in the investigation have been exhausted.

In order for the video to be released, the investigation into the incident had to be closed. A spokesperson for the Cedar Rapids Police Department told TV9 that the family requested that the case be closed so they could have the video.

“The family of the moped driver has requested that the video be released to them in hopes of generating new leads,” a statement from the Cedar Rapids Police Department said.

Any information about the driver of the red car can be directed to the Cedar Rapids Police Department, case number 2024-11264.

Cedar Rapids police will reopen the investigation if the video yields new leads.
