THE BCCI has not yet revealed the details of the IPL 2025 and fans are eagerly waiting for a word on this. The BCCI is likely to hold a mega auction for IPL In 2025, franchises will only be able to keep a limited number of players. Team owners met with board officials in July.

The Indian Express reported that IPL franchises may be allowed to retain five players each. It adds that the match fee (RTM) is unlikely to return during the auction. In 2022, the BCCI had allowed franchises to retain 4 players each. There was no RTM card.

By allowing teams to retain 5 players each, the BCCI will allow franchises to retain their core squad. Teams can re-sign other players during the IPL auction. As for the RTM card, it was last used in 2018.

Kolkata Riders (KKR) will enter IPL 2025 as the defending champions. The franchise would like to retain captain Shreyas Iyer, Venkatesh Iyer and three other players. Chennai Super Kings will surely retain MS Dhoni, Ruturaj Gaikwad and three other players in case of a mega-action.

There is no doubt about Virat Kohli’s future with Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) and he could once again be their first choice of retention. Faf du Plessis could be back in the auction. He captained RCB from IPL 2022 to 2024.

Will IPL auction be held outside India?

Cricbuzz recently reported that the IPL 2025 auction could once again be held outside India. The previous year’s auction was held in Dubai in December. The IPL 2025 auction is expected to take place in November in the Middle East. It will be a two-day event if there is a mega auction.

All eyes are on MS Dhoni ahead of the auction. The Indian legend has not broken his silence on his future and it has not been confirmed whether he will continue playing or not. Dhoni has relinquished the captaincy of Chennai Super Kings (CSK) ahead of IPL 2024.
