James Blunt has revealed his father lost his fingers in a horror lawnmower accident.

The singer, 50, appeared on Sunday Brunch to promote the re-release of his debut album Back To Bedlam, which was released in 2004 and includes songs such as You’re Beautiful, High, Wisemen and Goodbye My Lover.

In celebration of the album’s 20th anniversary, the singer is re-releasing the album and going on tour – he also promised to change his name to whatever the public wants.

When discussing the new album and his bizarre promise to change his name, the singer revealed a horrific story that involved his father having his fingers bitten off by a lawnmower.

‘Speaking of cutting off your fingers, my dad cut off his own fingers with a lawnmower. On the lawnmower, incredibly stupid, isn’t it?

He revealed that the incident was partly ‘his fault’: ‘The wheel had come off and it was my fault as I had hit a tree three weeks before and the wheel had fallen off, and I switched off the engine and started the car. roll again.’

‘And then when my dad was mowing the lawn the wheel fell off, he didn’t have far to go so he just thought he’d pick it up. And he came back without fingers.

The story only got more horrific as he went on, revealing that he was still tasked with finding his father’s fingers.

‘So he was taken to the hospital and he tried to drive to the hospital, a neighbor wouldn’t let him do that.

He then added: ‘So I was told to see if I could find my fingers to see if we could put them back and I couldn’t because it was like an apple – have you seen an apple go past a lawnmower? But we found a nail.

The other guests on the show were horrified by this horrible story and quickly moved on to the next segment and tried not to dwell on this anecdote.

James Blunt revealed earlier this week that the public voted for his new name to be Blunty McBluntyface.

The name is a hilarious homage to the viral ‘Boaty McBoatface’ from 2016, when the public gave a very inventive name to a new British research vessel.

But James has strict criteria about his name change, clarifying: ‘But if I don’t get to number one, I won’t change my name, it’s safe to say this is the most important democratic moment of the year.’

So it’s still unclear whether James Blunt will actually take on the hilarious moniker.

Back To Bedlam the 20th anniversary has been released on October 11, 2024.
