Video shows Phoenix PD attacking and using stun gun on deaf man

PHOENIX (AZ Family) —Alarming body camera footage recently obtained by Arizona family shows a man being repeatedly beaten and electrocuted by police officers during an arrest in August.

The suspect in the video, Tyron McAlpin, is deaf and has cerebral palsy, according to his wife.

In police body camera footage, you can see an officer immediately go after McAlpin. A nearby security camera shows the officer driving in front of him as he walks before the officer attacks him.

According to the police report, it was then that McAlpin fired back at the officers. Another officer arrived at the scene, but his body camera flew off during the incident.

In the video, you can’t hear McAlpin speak, only scream.

Officers were investigating an attack at a nearby Circle K and reported that McAlpin fit the description of the suspect. McAlpin was arrested for assault on the victim, aggravated assault on police officers and resisting arrest.

Phoenix police gave Arizona family this statement in response to the arrest:

“This incident is the subject of an ongoing investigation and has been assigned to the Professional Standards Bureau common for all use of force incident reviews on August 30, 2024.”

The arrest comes just months after the recent Department of Justice investigation that found Phoenix Police used excessive force and discriminated against blacks, Hispanics and Native Americans.

McAlpin’s attorney gave the body camera video to Arizona’s family.
