Shocked, Dan Bradbury wins the French Open: “My goal was to make the cut”

England’s Dan Bradbury kept his cool to stretch the French Open to win his second DP World Tour title.

Bradbury, 25, trailed Dane Jeff Winther by one stroke heading into the final round at Le Golf National.

A final round of 5-under 66 saw the Englishman achieve a total of four rounds of 16-under to seal victory by one.

Yannik Paul, Thorbjorn Olesen, Sam Bairstow and the aforementioned Winther finished tied for second at 15 under par.

“To be honest, I don’t know how to feel, I really don’t,” a shocked Bradbury told Sky Sports shortly after the win.

He said his goal this week was simply to make it through selection and ensure he wouldn’t have to return to Q-School later this year.

The leaderboard was tight all day, but Bradbury found himself ahead after three consecutive birdies on the 14th.

He closed with two pars, but had to endure a long wait before approaching the famous 18th hole.

With the pin in front right and the water approaching, Bradbury said he was just trying to hit the green.

He would have accepted a three-pointer, he said.

“We all know that with the ending here anything can happen,” he said.

“And it almost happened.”

Bradbury was alluding to the fact that he needed to make two putts from 46 feet to maintain the clubhouse lead.
