Lizzo announces her ‘gap year’ is over!

Two months ago, Lizzo announced that she would be taking a sabbatical.

In August, the singer posted a video of herself in a black bikini, in the rain, with the caption: “I’m taking a sabbatical and protecting my peace.”

This week, Lizzo announced that she is back.

According to Rolling Stone, Lizzo said at the Fortune Most Powerful Women Summit that she hasn’t stopped working.

When asked about the announced break, she said: “’Gap year’? Girl, who said ‘gap year’?”

Lizzo went on to discuss the projects she’s been involved in, including her music and her new clothing line.

“I launched my company Yitty in 2022, at the same time as my album, ‘Special,’” she said.

“I may not be as public-facing – but I went straight to Yitty HQ and I’m working, working, working,” she added.

Lizzo added that just because she’s out of the public eye doesn’t mean she’s stopped working.

“You may not see me, but I’m working.”

Lizzo, who has lost a lot of weight in recent months, clarified that her clothing brand is not for plus-size women.

“Yitty is not a plus size brand… Yitty is a brand created by a plus size woman for Every Damn Body,” she captioned a video posted on IG.

Lizzo also talked about some of the challenges she faced when starting out in the entertainment industry.

“There weren’t many women in rap, so I had to endure this question thousands of times. ‘How does it feel to be a female rapper in a male-dominated industry?’” the singer said during the Most Powerful Women Summit in Laguna Niguel, California.

The ‘Special’ hitmaker said she would respond to the question by expressing her desire to see more women get on board.

“I started to resent that question and would say, ‘You know what, my dream is that one day there will be so many women dominating the industry that you can fill an entire festival spot with just women.’ And that dream came true,’” she said.
