‘I was shocked by his proposal’

“I was shocked, honored and felt special. I felt this was the best he could give me,” says Evelyn Namagembe about the day Edgar Ginuwine Mugenyi proposed to marry her.

He recalls, “Planning my proposal to my now-wife was the culmination of three wonderful years of dating, during which I realized that she possessed everything I ever wanted in a partner. As we approached our fourth year together, I knew that It was time to take the next step.”

Mugenyi decided to plan a special trip to Fort Portal, a city close to his heart. It’s a place full of beautiful memories and Mugenyi wanted to create new ones with Namagembe.

The highlight of the trip was Ndali Lodge, which sits perfectly on the lakefront, surrounded by stunning scenery; an ideal romantic setting for your proposal. On the day of the proposal, he took the opportunity to take her from Kampala straight to Ndali Lodge, excited but nervous about what was about to happen.

“As soon as we arrived, the atmosphere was magical. As I prepared myself for the moment, I could see a sense of wonder and curiosity in their eyes,” he adds. When he finally got down on one knee and asked her to marry him, she couldn’t believe it.

The look of surprise on your face is something he will cherish forever. To make the day even more memorable, it started to rain, creating a romantic scene that seemed straight out of a fairy tale.

It was a day that had immense meaning in the hearts of the young lovers, marking the beginning of their journey towards a beautiful future together. Namagembe and Mugenyi are bankers.

The two met in 2017 at Centenary Bank, Entebbe Road branch, where they both worked. Mugenyi was a loan director, while Namagembe worked as a banker. Her memory of the first time they met is of a kind and charming man.

She was warm and kind, and he felt like getting to know her. The more they interacted, the more their friendship grew. Namagembe and Mugenyi began to trust each other, deeply enough to open up about their relationship. They were both available, liked each other and even became best friends. They both supported the same football team, Arsenal, so they could celebrate and comfort each other whenever the team won or lost a game.

“I realized that she is a very kind, patient, understanding, caring, loving and God-fearing woman. After seeing all these features in her, I decided to keep her forever,” says Mugenyi.

To profess his love for her, he told her that she was the best woman he had ever met, then showed her true love, affection, patience and told her how much she meant to him. She managed to prove that he was serious about committing to her in a relationship when he asked her to move into his house so they could be together.

He remained consistent in his kindness, intelligence, gentleness, and loving nature, which gave him comfort in having found a soulmate he could trust.

She began to love him without reservation. They would go out and stay out until very late, without worrying about the fact that they would have to be at the office the next day. The lovebirds took turns working to crack a joke or two about the highlights of the evening’s rides until the morning.

“Throughout our dating experience, I learned the importance of communication and the value of being authentic. We both prioritized honesty, which fostered a sense of security and trust in our relationship,” explains Mugenyi.

He adds: “I learned that she is a very patient woman, who understands me very well and raised me to be the best man I am today.”

Mugenyi married Namagembe in November 2020 and they began their marriage journey together.

Namagembe would like them to continue listening and forgiving each other, while Mugenyi aspires for them to continue loving, understanding, having mutual respect and unconditional love, and bringing God into their marriage.

When faced with challenges, Mugenyis deal with them by discussing them in detail, finding solutions together, and then moving forward.

She adds: “We are open about our finances and always consult each other before making any financial decisions.”

Mugenyi adds that given the fact that they are both bankers, they have always been open and honest about finances.

“This has created a strong and solid foundation for our future together and fostered trust between us, enabling us to achieve shared financial success,” says Mugenyi, adding that trust, patience and mutual openness are always key.

Mugenyi and Namagembe met in 2017 at Centenary Bank, Entebbe Road branch, where they both worked.

Namagembe emphasizes the importance of being willing to listen and forgive. As a couple, she says, they intend to love each other unconditionally, always believe and trust in God and appreciate the many miracles He has done and continues to do for them. “As a couple, we plan to travel together frequently, strengthen our bond through shared experiences, and continue to support each other’s personal and professional goals,” adds Mugenyi.
