After shooting his sister, he went to the office and shot his mother three times. Then, he returned to his room. As he was emptying the shells on his bed, he heard some noises and realized that his sister was still alive. He ran as fast as he could and shot her again.

Jake also returned to the office and shot his mother in the head to make sure she was dead. His mother and sister succumbed to multiple gunshot wounds. After committing the murders, he placed the gun on the kitchen counter and called 911 to report the incident.

When the 911 interviewee arrived at the crime scene, Jake turned himself in and was arrested without any resistance. Jake confessed that he murdered his mother and sister because he felt they were suffocating him. He also confessed that he planned to kill several other relatives, including his grandparents and two sisters.

He wrote a four-page confession in which he provided full details of the incident. Jake pleaded guilty to two counts of murder, which led the state to waive the capital murder charge. On April 30, 2015, he was sentenced to 45 years in prison for the crime.
