Kamala Harris’ chances of winning the election increase after interview with Fox News

Vice President Kamala Harris’s odds of winning the 2024 presidential election were lowered by two major bookmakers following her interview with Fox News on Wednesday, during which she discussed immigration, transgender health care and perceived threats to American democracy with host Bret Baier.

Ahead of the interview, which was broadcast at 6pm ET on Wednesday, Betfair and Paddy Power offered odds of 11/8 (42.1 percent) on Harris securing an election victory in November. However, as of 5:30 a.m. ET on Thursday, the vice president’s odds have improved to 5/4 (44.4%).

Harris’ Fox News interview came amid signs that her campaign has lost some momentum, with polling site 338Canada giving her Republican opponent, Donald Trump, a 51 percent chance of securing the White House – up from 47 per cent. cent last week. The vice president is in talks to appear on comedian Joe Rogan’s podcast, which is known to be popular with young people.

Although Betfair and Paddy Power reduced Harris’s winning odds following Wednesday’s interview, the vice-president’s odds remained unchanged with several other bookmakers. On Wednesday afternoon, Bet365 and Sky Bet offered odds of 13/10 (43.5%) and 5/4 (44.4%) respectively for a Harris win. They remained the same on Thursday morning.

News week contacted representatives from the Harris and Trump campaigns for comment via email on Thursday outside of normal business hours.

During Harris’ interview with Baier, the pair spared immigration policy after the Fox News host asked the vice president, “How many illegal immigrants do you estimate your administration has released into the country over the last three and a half years.”

Harris responded, “We have a broken immigration system that needs to be fixed,” before Baier interrupted to ask about Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas’ statement that 85 percent of people detained along the U.S.-Mexico border had already been released.

The Democratic presidential nominee then interjected, “I’m not done,” before discussing Biden’s botched 2021 U.S. Citizenship Act and accusing Trump of torpedoing a bipartisan migration deal earlier this year.

Harris also said in the interview that a second Trump term could undermine the rule of law, adding that the Republican candidate was unable to “handle criticism.”

“You and I know he talked about turning the American military against the American people,” Harris continued.

Baier also challenged the vice president on providing transgender health care to people in prison, referencing a Trump campaign ad that raised the issue.

The vice president said, “I will follow the law,” adding that federal regulations mean equal access to health care is a legal requirement.

According to election website 538, as of Wednesday, Harris had a 2.4 percentage point lead over Trump. Less than 20 days before the elections, the dispute remains very fierce.
