Modack trial halted after co-accused allegedly caught with drugs

Nafiz Modack’s trial in the Western Cape High Court was abruptly halted because one of the co-accused was allegedly found with drugs in his possession.

Dramatic scenes unfolded in court on Thursday afternoon when senior Hawks officials were seen arriving during the lunch hour.

According to multiple sources, Modack’s co-accused, Moegamat Toufeek Brown, was found with the drugs in his possession in the cells.

“He was found with a packet of tik and it is alleged that it was passed to him by a lawyer. He was reportedly under surveillance for a long time and there were several exchanges last week and on Thursday the Hawks decided to search the accused during his lunch hour.”

The courtroom was cordoned off amid reports it was now a crime scene when legal representatives were called to Judge Robert Henney’s office.

Hawks detective Captain Edward Du Plessis was later seen carrying an evidence bag which he clutched tightly to his chest.

This is a developing story.
