The JEE Main exam will return to the pre-Covid-19 pattern in which optional questions will not be given in Section B of the exam.

The National Testing Agency has eliminated optional questions in section B of the JEE Main exam ahead of registration for JEE Main 2025. In JEE Main 2021, the NTA has introduced optional questions in section B of the exam in the wake of the Covid-19 pandemic. However, since the World Health Organization declared the end of the coronavirus pandemic, the NTA has now removed the optional questions from the paper pattern.

With this announcement, JEE Main 2025 exam will return to pre-COVID pattern. In Section B, there will be only 5 questions, all mandatory, with no choice.

In the official notification, NTA said, “During the onset of the COVID 19 pandemic, the National Testing Agency (NTA) implemented an option in Section B of each subject of the JEE (Main) Exam, allowing candidates to attempt any 5 ( five ) questions out of a total of 10 questions since JEE (Main) 2021. This modification was introduced as a temporary measure to accommodate the challenges posed during the pandemic and has been in practice until the year 2024 for the JEE (Main) examination.

“Since the United Nations World Health Organization (WHO) declaration of COVID-19 as an end to the public health emergency on May 5, 2023, it has been decided to discontinue optional question selection. The exam structure would return to its original format where Section B will contain only 5 (five) questions per subject, and candidates will be required to attempt all 5 (five) questions without any selection options in JEE (Main) 2025 for Paper 1 (BE/B. Tech), Paper 2 A (Arc B) and Paper 2 B (Planning B),” the official notification added.
