The emotional reaction of Slot and Nunez the bodyguard – 5 things discovered in Liverpool 2-1 Chelsea – Liverpool FC

There were many incidents at Anfield as Liverpool defeated Chelsea 2-1 in a game marred by stoppages, questionable decisions and emotional reactions on and off the pitch.

Curtis Jones was the hero as Liverpool maintained their one-point lead over Man City at the top of the Premier League.

His goal and exceptional display in midfield helped lead the Reds to a victory that many see as a declaration of their title intentions.

This may be a little premature given the difficulty of Liverpool’s upcoming games, but what we can be sure of is that the Reds are ready to fight.

Amidst the confusion of the second half, there was a lot going on that you may have missed, but we’ve got you covered…

Arne Slot and Darwin Nunez’s reaction to the foul

OK, so you may have already seen this one, but it’s definitely worth a look, especially now that we can relax knowing it didn’t matter to the outcome.

After Arne Slot received a yellow card, he was on his best behavior during the finals, but was unable to contain his emotions in the last minute when Darwin Nunez was penalized for a 50-50 challenge with Renato Veiga.

Nunez and Slot’s reaction was almost comical as they tried to redirect their frustration and bewilderment away from the referee.

Sipke Hulshoff guides Arne Slot away

Until the weekend, Slot was a relatively cool character on the sideline, only occasionally showing his passion when scoring.

On Sunday, though, he couldn’t help but be caught out on his first big occasion at Anfield.

Although Slot appeared to have calmed down after the three points were secured, first assistant coach Sipke Hulshoff decided it was best to move the head coach away from referee John Brooks – a wise decision, Sipke.

Darwin Nunez was Mo Salah’s bodyguard

Having replaced the injured Diogo Jota after 30 minutes, Nunez definitely left his mark on the game, despite not scoring.

It was probably his work without the ball at Anfield that should receive the most praise, as he went back and worked endlessly with the Chelsea defense, especially Benoit Badiashile.

At one point it looked like Nunez might let the emotion of it all get to him, but he kept a cool head and even stepped in to play peacemaker to Mo Salah at one point!

Helping to derail the game, this was one of our favorite moments, as he mocked Badiashile’s ‘collision’, not even committing a foul while laughing on the ground.

This pass wasn’t bad either…

David James steals the show

At half-time, some fans had the chance to take a penalty against David James at the end of the Kop.

Normally, these penalties can hit the net, especially when children are taking them, but the former Liverpool goalkeeper would have none of it, saving the first and second from this child.

To be fair, it looked like he was trying to get out of the way of the boy’s second attempt!

Save the Zoe’s Place banner on the Kop

As you’ve probably seen, there’s an urgent campaign on Merseyside to raise enough money to save Zoe’s Place, a center near Melwood that provides care for babies and young children with complex, life-limiting or life-threatening conditions.

It was recently announced that the charity would need £5 million raised by the end of October to stay open in Liverpool and this has since generated huge support.

Former LFC players’ association Forever Reds are donating £150,000 to help save Zoe’s Place and there was a banner on the Kop helping to publicize the appeal.

If you are in a position to do so, you can help here.
