Dorset Police have their work cut out for them in trying to investigate the cause of today’s incident in Swanage, they say news correspondent Rachel Venables.

Three people have died and four others are in hospital after emergency services were called to Gainsborough care home this morning.

Police say the incident is being treated as “unexplained” and an investigation has been launched.

“You can imagine it’s going to be a lot of work now for them to try to figure out what happened,” says Venables.

“Some reports are coming in from the area. A Dorset councilor, Gary Suttle, told the PA news agency there is a suspicion it could be attributed to carbon monoxide.

“But he says it has not been proven and we need to also emphasize that this is just what came from this individual at the time.

“But clearly whatever it was, it was a real tragedy, something that really worried the emergency services. And now we have these three families who received the worst news this morning.”
